Thanks to a large grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NHLF), the Cotswold Canals Connected project is restoring 4 miles of canal, connecting an already restored section to the national waterway network, making Stroud and Stonehouse canal towns once again. This multi-million project will also achieve biodiversity net gain, engage and connect communities, bring wide-ranging health and wellbeing opportunities and conserve our heritage.As the Canal Site Supervisor you will plan, manage and deliver a range of projects to restore and maintain the Cotswold Canals. Reporting to the Cotswold Canals Trust Operations Director you will lead and manage a team of volunteers and co-ordinate the equipment and materials required for each project. Volunteers will range in skills and experience, so you will need to have good communication and inter-personal skills to inspire and motivate your team. You will require previous experience as a Site Supervisor and have ideally worked with volunteers. Project tasks will range from towpath construction and maintenance, vegetation clearance and tree felling to lock restoration. This is a practical, hands on, outdoors role with all of the activities happening along the canal corridor from Saul Junction to Brimscombe Port.
You will require the leadership skills to work with, and support, a diverse group of volunteers with a sound understanding of Health & Safety, First Aid and Equality & Diversity. You will need to have a valid UK driving licence so that you can collect equipment and materials required for volunteering activities (vehicle provided for specific activities).
